sulfate free and paraben free

My Take: I would never have thought to use setting lotion in my hair, I grew up watching my mom use it for roller sets on her relaxed hair, so I didn't think it's use translated over to my natural tresses. I used the Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion in my oldest daughter's transitioning hair. She's determined to go sulfate and paraben free in the products she uses so this was a perfect fit for her roller set. We used a spray bottle of water to dampen her hair (her natural texture is 4b/c) and then used a generous amount of the foam throughout before putting in foam rollers. While I don't exactly like the scent (it's not bad, it's just not good) and the fact that it leaves your hands quite sticky, the results are undeniable. After leaving the rollers in overnight, she woke up with lovely curls that I'm positive will stay in her hair all day, despite the humidity. We did need to apply some cream moisturizer, as her hair did look a bit dry, but the important thing is that her hair will hold, thanks to Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion! I still can't figure out how to use it in my 3b hair, but we will definitely be using it again in hers!

Until next time...

I LOVE Brit Speak!-AKA Mama's Mani Madness with butter London's Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

I'm totally enamored with the butter LONDON products that I have in my stash (Rosie Lee, Knackered, and Disco Biscuit) so I'm super excited over their new collection for the Fall (plus I'm a sucker for the awesome British slang they use as names for the equally awesome lacquers). Here's a sneak peek:

Fall 2012 Trends the butter LONDON way:

Sequins! Velvet! Satin! Tweed! This season, the catwalks were abundant with rich texture! We’ve translated this to nails through the infusion of glitter particles and metallic and holographic finishes. The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones – think rust, shimmering greens and silvers. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look!

Lovely Jubbly

Lovely Jubbly-(translation: excellent; used when a person hears great news or has a stroke of good luck) The lacquer is a vibrant magenta flecked with red, blue, and gold micro particles for a distinctly retro 70's feel. This sultry glitter gives high impact sparkle, perfect for even modern Disco Divas.

Trustafarian

Trustafarian- (translation: a spoiled rich kid who pretends to be a hippy, but still weekend's at Daddy's estate). The lacquer is a delightful sage green with a golden holographic finish that gives it a surprisingly sophisticated edge.

Gobsmacked

Gobsmacked- (translation: to be totally speechless or unable to think of anything to say). The lacquer is a heavily pigmented charcoal grey glitter with a slightly textured finish. It is a butter LONDON legend in the making and unlike anything seen before!

Shag

Shag- (translation: Brit equivalent to "knocking boots"). The lacquer is a high shine metallic in a warm orange burgundy shade. Think fallen Autumn leaves...

Dodgy Barnett

Dodgy Barnett- (translation: a seriously bad hair cut or 'do; the mullet is the perfect example). The lacquer is a highly holographic shade that blurs the line between grey and silver. A must have!

Backstage with butter LONDON: butter LONDON is a backstage staple at Fashion Week, having created the nail looks for shows including Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, and Yigal Azrouel. Sought after for their innovative design, technique, and custom blended colours, this season the brand created the nail looks for Altuzarra, Kevork, Kaelen, Simone Rocha, JS Lee, Craig Lawrence, Matthew Williamson, Michael van der Ham, and Roland Mouret. Each Lacquer retails for $14 and they are available on butterLONDON.com and select Ulta Beauty stores.

So it's official, I want them all! Stay tuned for information on the coordinating lipgloss (or "lippies" as the Brits say) collection! What color in the collection is on your wish list? What's your favorite butter London shade? My inquiring mind wants to know! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Until next time...

Got 5 Minutes? Put It Towards Your Butt!-AKA GMYMO (With David Kirsch and LookTV)

Alright, alright! I know you lovelies know that I'm a mommy to 3 girls: 2 of which are under 5, and one that is obsessed with breastfeeding. So I don't have to tell you that time is a very precious commodity and I very rarely get to spend any on myself. That makes my quest to get fit a little bit more difficult. That's why I love the idea of these new 5 minute workouts from David Kirsch and LookTV on YouTube (just what I need, another reason to love YouTube)!

LookTV is a new fashion and beauty channel on YouTube brought to you by the creators of Project Runway. They've enlisted fitness and wellness expert and celebrity trainer David Kirsch to share the same sculpting secrets he's used when training clients like Heidi Klum, Liv Tyler, and Dr. Oz. In this premiere episode, David shares quick tips and tricks for targeting the hips and butts (just in time to get ready for those form fitting sweater dresses). These toning moves can be implemented at anytime and anywhere. So enjoy lovelies, make sure to go to YouTube and subscribe to LookTV. And join me in getting your yummy mummy on!

The Game of Beauty-AKA LUSH's Emotional Brilliance Collection

Brilliant Makeup from LUSH!

Just as they've done with skin care, LUSH has taken a fresh and inventive approach to cosmetics with their new Emotional Brilliance collection. In a way that only LUSH can, they have introduced an entirely new concept, in which wearing makeup is less about what's in season or on trend and more about wearing colors to shape your mood-actually matching your psychological needs to which color cosmetics you should e range consists of lip colors, eyeliners, and eyeshadows, as well as skin tints and a translucent powder.  Color choices are made by playing an insightful game, that involve spinning a gorgeous color wheel and picking the shade that immediately stand out to you. Each shade corresponds with a word, such as Confident, Take Control, or Passionate (or in my case-Fantasy, Feeling Secure, and Glamorous), that are significant to your needs at that time. By wearing the color, you are truly using the power of suggestion and in essence, willing the corresponding word into your life.

Call Me June Cleaver-AKA My Hen House Linens Apron

Hen House Linens Cook's Apron in Bargello Grass

Don't judge me, but I've wanted an apron for ages! It's a bit odd, but seeing the resurgence of such an old fashioned style staple in such cute, kitschy ways has had me itching to possess my own. But with so many companies popping up with various adorable takes on the housewife classic, I had a hard time choosing one, so I had none. But then lo and behold, in the mail one day, I received this beauty from Hen House Linens, and I've been rocking it almost daily ever since!

I love its thick, durable construction and modern pattern. It has a handy dandy pocket for me to stick a copious amount of pens, my phone, and lip balm. It's cut in such a manner that it is supremely flattering and super comfortable. Here's the kicker, I love to wear it to cook and clean (obviously, that's what it's made for), but on the days when I just don't feel like being domestic, putting on my apron actually motivates me to fulfill those run of the mill, domestic duties (except for folding the laundry; nothing short of bribery makes me want to fold laundry). And I feel super cute-like a modern day June Cleaver-when I have it on. It's practical and fun!

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Makeup Removing Wipes-AKA The Greatest Klout Perk Ever!

One of my fave Klout Perks ever!

If you haven't yet, you should definitely go sign up for Klout! They use some kind of magically scientific algorithm or something rather to gauge your social media interaction which they then transfer into measuring your influence or "klout." And depending on your level of klout and the areas in which you are determined influential, you are awarded "perks" from various brands. That's the best I can explain the whole thing-all I know is that it's free, painless, and I've gotten some great goodies because of it. Which brings us to the topic at hand...
