There's Nothing Like a Good Friend with Good Taste! AKA- My Swap with Cafe Fashionista

My lovely, lovely FIB (Friend In Blogging-yeah, I think I just coined a term), Erika Sorocco, or Cafe Fashionista and I decided to do a SWAP!!! You know, like the ones that YouTube beauty gurus do? I just love those videos and I couldn't think of anyone better to do it with than Erika! She has been a loyal friend and supporter wince I began blogging, way back when. I read her posts almost daily (and backtrack when I happen to miss a few) and I always try to take the time to comment (that's one way we bloggers show support for each other). She has impeccable style, incredible taste, and like me she's obsessed with reading, writing, fashion, and coffee! Though we have never met, I have developed a deep affection for Erika over the years, and I am so pleased that we were able to do this swap together.

So, on to the swap! I approached Erika with the idea of a swap a few weeks back-that we set an agreed upon price limit and then exchange packages of goodies and share it with our readers. I suggested that for us, instead of focusing on just cosmetics, we could include books, accessories, nail polish, and coffee. She loved the idea and away we went!

Initially we set a price limit of $100, but we both soon found that that was not quite enough money. We were having too much fun shopping for each other! One of the awesome things about doing what I do, is that I'm exposed to such great brands and products and I was super eager to share my loves with my friend. But a lot of my faves are not on the budget friendly side (honestly, I purchased two items and was well over $50), so we went back to the drawing board, first agreeing on $150, but finally settling on $200.

As exciting as it was to be shopping for Erika, I was even more excited about what she was getting for me! Here is the package she sent:

Nail the Look-AKA: butter LONDON New York Fashion Week Spring 2013

So maybe I can't fit into a sample size, and perhaps I don't quite have the budget for all the designer duds I would like, BUT I can mimic the exact trend displayed during New York Fashion Week-with my nail polish! And so can you! See how butter LONDON styled the nails of the models for Erin Fetherston, Veda, and Kaelen:

ERIN FETHERSTON

Overall Look: The designer's signature feminine style had a bit of an edge. The collection consisted of flirty, feminine silhouettes with zippers, studs and texture.

Nail Design: The models weren't wearing bracelets or rings because Erin wanted the nails to be the accessory for the hands. Metallic nails mimicked the look of jewelry, lending itself to the ultimate eye-catching accessory. We used Lillibet's Jubilee, a silver metallic colour with a lilac finish that adds a feminine touch to the rock & roll vintage feel.

Details: The nails were naturally rounded for a feminine finish.

The Brits Get Lippy!-AKA: butter LONDON Lippy Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

I'm all about butter LONDON lately (I'm currently wearing Bossy Boots-a light pistachio creme, and Rosie Lee- gorgeous rose gold glitter, on my nails), so I'm loving everything they have coming out for the fall.

Rosie Lee is on the left and Bossy Boots is on the right

How I put them together :)

I've already shared the line up of new lacquers for the fall, and as promised, here is butter LONDON's Autumn/Winter 2012 Lippy Collection:

I LOVE Brit Speak!-AKA Mama's Mani Madness with butter London's Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

I'm totally enamored with the butter LONDON products that I have in my stash (Rosie Lee, Knackered, and Disco Biscuit) so I'm super excited over their new collection for the Fall (plus I'm a sucker for the awesome British slang they use as names for the equally awesome lacquers). Here's a sneak peek:

Fall 2012 Trends the butter LONDON way:

Sequins! Velvet! Satin! Tweed! This season, the catwalks were abundant with rich texture! We’ve translated this to nails through the infusion of glitter particles and metallic and holographic finishes. The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones – think rust, shimmering greens and silvers. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look!

Lovely Jubbly

Lovely Jubbly-(translation: excellent; used when a person hears great news or has a stroke of good luck) The lacquer is a vibrant magenta flecked with red, blue, and gold micro particles for a distinctly retro 70's feel. This sultry glitter gives high impact sparkle, perfect for even modern Disco Divas.

Trustafarian

Trustafarian- (translation: a spoiled rich kid who pretends to be a hippy, but still weekend's at Daddy's estate). The lacquer is a delightful sage green with a golden holographic finish that gives it a surprisingly sophisticated edge.

Gobsmacked

Gobsmacked- (translation: to be totally speechless or unable to think of anything to say). The lacquer is a heavily pigmented charcoal grey glitter with a slightly textured finish. It is a butter LONDON legend in the making and unlike anything seen before!

Shag

Shag- (translation: Brit equivalent to "knocking boots"). The lacquer is a high shine metallic in a warm orange burgundy shade. Think fallen Autumn leaves...

Dodgy Barnett

Dodgy Barnett- (translation: a seriously bad hair cut or 'do; the mullet is the perfect example). The lacquer is a highly holographic shade that blurs the line between grey and silver. A must have!

Backstage with butter LONDON: butter LONDON is a backstage staple at Fashion Week, having created the nail looks for shows including Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, and Yigal Azrouel. Sought after for their innovative design, technique, and custom blended colours, this season the brand created the nail looks for Altuzarra, Kevork, Kaelen, Simone Rocha, JS Lee, Craig Lawrence, Matthew Williamson, Michael van der Ham, and Roland Mouret. Each Lacquer retails for $14 and they are available on butterLONDON.com and select Ulta Beauty stores.

So it's official, I want them all! Stay tuned for information on the coordinating lipgloss (or "lippies" as the Brits say) collection! What color in the collection is on your wish list? What's your favorite butter London shade? My inquiring mind wants to know! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Until next time...

Ciao, XxO

Hardwear-Lock your lacquer. Our quick dry, ultra glossy, non-toxic topcoat protects your lacquer, extending the life of your manicure.

Nail Foundation-the flawless basecoat

Perfect Finish Foot Creme-Imagine a product that contains the same active ingredients found in your anti-perspirant, suspended in Shea and Cocoa butter. Add a touch of Camphor for cooling, some Triclosan to prevent microbial growth, and you are looking at one special foot creme.

No lovelies, my pretty pink net book was not hijacked by tricky, duplicitous advertisers. I just wanted to give a proper introduction to some of the fantastic products that can be yours (yes, yours!) if you win...MY FIRST GIVEAWAY!

That's right! Thanks to the lovely Nonie Creme, Creative Director of butter LONDON, I am offering my readers a chance to win a gift pack that includes: Nail Foundation (base coat), Hardwear (top coat), Yummy Mummy (a medium beige that is simply stunning on EVERY skin colour, 3 free nail lacquer, not pictured), HRH (a proper purple, 3 free nail lacquer, not pictured), and Powder Finish Foot Creme (all together it retails for about $92!).

All of butter LONDON's polishes are "3 free," meaning that they are free of the three toxic chemicals commonly found in nail polishes: Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, and Toluene. Oh and (after such a serious statement as that this may sound silly, but hey) they give their lacquers the cutest, cleverist British names! HRH is short for "her royal highness" (as in Queen Elizabeth), which is perfect for the royal shade of purple. And Yummy Mummy is Brit slang for "impossibly slender, beautiful, stay at home mums," and you know I love that seeing as my goal in life is to be a yummy mummy and all ( I'm close, just gotta work on the "impossibly slender" part!).

"So, how do I get my hands on such awesomeness?"-you may be anxiously wondering. Well obviously by taking visit to butter LONDON's website. Or... you can win it here!

From the time I was about 8 years old, whenever I got to pick a treat or had saved some allowance, I always got Lee Press On Nails. I always felt so grown up and pretty when I had on those long, fake fingernails (albeit, they only stayed on until the first time I washed my hands and my mother had me petrified that they would stay on permanantly and suffocate my real nails if I ever slept with them on overnight). As I grew older (and my hand steadier) I would give myself a weekly mani/pedi and literally changed my polish with outfit (or mood). Then when I got my first job at 16, I began making regular trips to the salon to have my nails done professionally. So I guess you could say that nail polish (and lip smackers) is my first make up love.

Even now, when I'm not feeling my poshest, when I paint my nails, it's the perfect little pick me up. At any given time, I have on at least 3 different shades of polish (one on my toes, and two different shades on my fingers-a trick that I picked up from Greta's Guide!) My choice combination of butter LONDON shades is London Underground with Billy No Mates for my hands and Mariner for my toes. In order to win the marvelous prize pack from butter LONDON, all you have to do is become a follower of Mama Fashionista, visit the butter LONDON website and leave a comment here telling me your fave color combination for the perfect mani/pedi. Please pick two shades and specify which one you would use on your hands and which one you would use on your feet. Nonie and I will pick our favorite, most creative color combo and send you a lovely basket of goodies! Please include your name and email address in your comments (we won't spam you but you will be added to butter LONDON's mailing list to receive updates on new releases, and promotional offers). The contest is open to readers in the US only (sorry international people!) and will run until 11:59 pm EST October 31, 2009. The winner will be notified via email by November 3, 2009.
So have fun and best wishes! Remember to be creative! 'Til next time...

Fashion Forever...

Quinn
