(In the on going "Getting My Yummy Mummy On" series, I will share not only my personal experiences on my journey to weight loss and fitness, but also tips and tricks I discover along the way. In this installment, I'll be sharing some tips from celebrity nutritionist and author of The Beauty Detox Solution, Kimberly Snyder. She loves to give beat the bloat eating tips that I have found super helpful, so I wanted to share them with you lovelies (especially with all those summer time barbecues on the horizon.)! Kimberly Snyder's Top 8 Nutrition Tips

1. Eat Light to Heavy. This is a tremendously important part of maintaining energy throughout the day. If you eat heavy foods first, your body struggles to digest them and other foods get trapped behind. You end up wasting huge amounts of energy on digestion. The result is that your body doesn’t absorb ideal amounts of nutrients needed for energy from the foods you eat, and you have to expel tremendous amounts of energy for digestion.
The fix is simple. Eating foods light to heavy, both throughout the day and at each meal primes you for optimal digestion.

2. Use coconut oil instead of veggie oil.  Cooked oils and fried foods are among the most aging, fattening and acid forming types of food we consume. Eating excessive cooked oil can cause premature aging, weight gain and unfavorable body odor. Cook with coconut oil, which will help reduce visible signs of aging on our skin. I even use it as my body moisturizer – that’s how great it is!

3. Eat fruit only on an empty stomach, and never for dessert. Since fruit is composed of simple sugars which are digested and move out of the stomach very quickly, we want to ensure it is not eaten after heavier foods that take longer to digest. When we do that, the fruit is stuck longer in the stomach where it will start to ferment, causing bloating and again, poor digestion.

4.  Avoid all table salt, and avoid processed foods that contain table salt. Too much table salt creates “fake fat”, and can make us look up to 9 pounds heavier than we truly weigh. If you need that salty flavor, try high quality sea salt – a little goes a long way!

5. Don’t drink large amounts of water and liquids when you are eating! A lot of people think that chugging water while they eat will make them feel fuller faster, thus cutting back on how much they eat. But drinking lots of water with meals will impede the digestive process by diluting gastric juices, such as your HCI. You also dilute the digestive enzymes your body needs for the effective digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. You will BLOAT. So just sip on water and other liquids at meals, but no chugging.

6. Have liquid multi-vitamins, instead of taking five different vitamins. Try a liquid multi-vitamin. Not only will this boost your hair and nail health, but liquid multi-vitamins are essential to helping skin prevent wrinkles and warding off signs of aging.

7. Swap the Splenda for Stevia. Stevia is an herb that also serves as a natural sweetener. What most people don’t know is that stevia has been shown to prevent tooth decay and actually stabilize blood glucose.

8. Stop thinking of fats as another f-word. Our society has such an emphasis on “fat-free” and “low-fat”, many people fail to realize that fat plays an important role in our bodies. The trick is obtaining the right types of fats for good mental health. These “good” fats are found in raw nuts and seeds, avocados, and coconut oil. Eat plenty of these foods to protect your overall brain health, particularly those containing Omega-3 fats like chia seeds and flaxseeds.

I've been able to implement quite a few of these tips and can definitely tell a difference! More than just looking better physically, I feel better. Will you be trying out some of these tips? If you're interested in more, make sure to check out Kimberly's book The Beauty Detox Solution!
