Getting It Straight with Redken and Pureology

I love my curls and 90% of the time, my hair is in a mass of ringlets. But sometimes I long for the length and sleekness I get when my hair is straight (and I swear I look 10 pounds thinner when my hair is tamed). So as much as I experiment with products to take care of and make the most out of my curls, I'm also forever on the hunt to find the perfect combination of products and methods to maintain my hair when I wear it straight.

In general, I try to use the least amount of heat possible on my hair, which usually means letting it air dry before using a flat iron to straighten (I'll have a post up soon about my favorite heat tool for straightening) my hair, but sometimes I just don't have time for all of that! When I do need to pull out the blow dryer, Redken's  Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow Dry Lotion is my best friend. The lightweight heat activated lotion not only protects hair from heat damage, it reduces friction and breakage, and smooths my tresses to a silky, manageable, frizz free finish. This means that I can use a lower temperature setting on my flat iron and it takes fewer passes through each section to get it straight.

I don't do touch ups once my hair is straight, so I do my best to style it with the flat iron as I'm straightening it. Unfortunately, once my hair is straight it doesn't hold a curl very well (ironic, huh) and most hairsprays I've tried tend to make my hair revert back to curls (I can not even tell you how frustrating that is). But then I got the chance to try Pureology Colour Stylist Supreme Control Hairspray. Not only does it help me maintain my  hard earned, sleek 'do, it holds on to the waves or curls that I styled as well. And it holds my style without being dull, flakey, or overly sticky.

While we're on the topic of Pureology, when I know that I'm going to be straightening my hair I always make sure to start the process with clean, yet deeply moisturized hair. I love the Pureology Hydrate System. Both the shampoo and conditioner are 100% vegan, and because they are formulated for color treated hair in mind, they are effective yet gentle.
