L'Oreal EverCurl Line AKA: An Introductory CGC

I'm calling this an introduction because in this post I will only be covering 3 of the 5 products in the line I received for review. The Sculpt & Hold Cream-Gel (pictured below) and the Cleansing Conditioner (not pictured) will be featured in a future post.

Hydracharge Shampoo, Hydracharge Conditioner, Hydracharge Leave-In Cream, and Sculpt & Hold Cream Gel

L’Oreal Paris has launched a new line created specifically for curly girls called EverCurl! It’s a sulfate-free hair care system developed to handle all of our unique curly needs, from cleansing to styling. EverCurl products are designed to keep your curls, coils, and waves hydrated and conditioned.

Here is my first impression of the line:

Hydracharge Shampoo (MSRP $5.99 for 8.5 fl. oz.)- gently cleanses without harsh sulfates and drying agents that can make curls frizzy, brittle and stiff. Its rich lather and natural aromatic properties help invigorate the senses. The result – revitalized, touchable and bouncy curls.

Ingredients-Aqua / Water / Eau, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Glycol Distearate, Glycereth-26, Decyl Glucoside, Hydrogenated Coconut Acid, Parfum / Fragrance, Ppg-5-Ceteth-20, Peg-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Polyquaternium-7, Amodimethicone, Polyquaternium-10, Sodium Isethionate, Carbomer, Benzyl Benzoate, C11-15 Pareth-7, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoic Acid, Glycerin, Trideceth-12, Laureth-9, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Sodium Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Coumarin, Cocos Nucifera Oil / Coconut Oil, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil / Grape Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Oil / Orange Peel Oil, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Hibiscus Esculentus / Hibiscus Esculentus Seed Extract, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid

sulfate free, paraben free, protein free

My Take: As a shampoo, this was ok-it got my hair and scalp clean without making my hair feel dry or stripped. As a sulfate free shampoo, I'd rate it a notch better than most-it did lather up decently and I didn't feel like I had to repeat the process to get my hair truly clean. The fragrance was more perfumey than I'd like, but it fades after a while. I used it to wash my hair when I was going from straight to curly, so I do feel that it did well in cleaning out all of the product used from the time I straightened through the duration of it being straight. I just didn't find it to be spectacular. But it is a drugstore product, so it's inexpensive and easily accessible so it does get extra points for that. I do really like the packaging-the metallic blue is really pretty and eye catching, and I like that the shampoo and conditioner are in easy to squeeze bottles which will ensure that you get to use even the last drop of product.

Hydracharge Conditioner (MSRP $5.99 for 8.5 fl. oz)quenches and softens, perfecting each curl’s shape. Infusing hydrating nourishment without weighing hair down, curls are left softer and more manageable without frizz. Its natural aromatic properties help invigorate the senses.

Ingredients- Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Esters, Isopropyl Myristate, Quaternium 80, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium 37, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, PPG 1 Trideceth 6, Coumarin, Aminomethylpropanol, Hibiscus Esculentus Seed Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil

silicone free, sulfate free, paraben free, protein free

My Take: I used this conditioner after using the Hydracharge Shampoo and I really liked it. It's rich and creamy and provided enough slip for me to finger detangle in the shower without a problem. I did use quite a bit of product (but I tend to do that with rinse out conditioners), but I did not find that it left a residue or film, it rinsed completely clean and left my hair nice and soft. I opted to leave the conditioner on for a while after detangling; I twisted my hair up and put on a shower cap while I took care of other shower business. I'm sure the extra time and heat and steam from the shower increased the effectiveness of the conditioner, so I'll probably utilize that method from now on, as I was really please with the results.

Hydracharge Leave-In Cream (MSRP $7.99 for 6 fl.oz.)provides intense hydrating nourishment without weighing hair down. The ultra-rich formula feeds curls with moisture, helps block frizz and nurtures each curl’s elasticity and shape. Acts as an anti-humectant.

Ingredients- Aqua / Water / Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Cetyl Esters, Behentrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum / Fragrance, Trideceth-6, Isopropyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera Oil / Coconut Oil, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil / Grape Seed Oil, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, 2-Oleamido-1,3-Octadecanediol, Hibiscus Esculentus / Hibiscus Esculentus Seed Extract, Coumarin, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Oil / Orange Peel Oil, Limonene, Bht

silicone free, paraben free, protein free, glycerin free

My Take-

I used this after the Hydracharge Shampoo and Conditioner and really liked the overall results. I applied it while my hair was still damp-I parted it into 4 sections and applied 2 pumps worth to each section, and then used an additional pump around my hair line and nape. I'm not a huge fan of the fragrance used with the set, but I can get over that with these sort of results. Considering that it was the only "styling aid" I used my hair turned out great: good curl definition, minimal frizz (though there was some), and it was full of body. I did notice that there was a bit of crunch in certain areas of my hair, but that was probably from user error; next time I will probably only use one pump per section. Overall I really liked this leave-in conditioner and I will definitely be reaching for it again. The packaging for this was also cute, and I love that it has a pump. However, I did notice that it was awfully similar to the packaging for Redken's Curvaceous Ringlet Cream (which I posted about here). I plan to do a comparison post for the two very soon...

Anyway, here's how my hair turned out...

Until next time...

  2. I would recommend every curly haired girl to try the Loreal Evercurl Cleansing Conditioner. After using this product, I don't ever want traditional shampoo to touch my hair again.
