Get That Zoom Glow You’Ve Been Dreaming About

The zoom effect is here to stay as more and more employees continue to work from home in some capacity. The pandemic has been a wake-up call for countless professionals, leading to a boom in cosmetic queries. Zoom accentuates imperfections. Combined with inadequate lighting and perhaps sitting too close to the camera, people did not like what their faces looked like on screen.

The main complaints include the appearance of shadows, making it look like one's face has lost volume, excess submental skin and fat, dropping jawlines, and expression folds around the mouth.

Do I really look like that?

The answer is: No. Zoom doesn't necessarily show an accurate image of your facial features for a variety of reasons:

  • Poor lighting

  • Low-quality camera

  • Being too close to the screen

  • Aggressive skin light that can distort the image

  • Home office skin and tiredness

You may be considering rejuvenating injections to make peace with the way Zoom sees and shows you. But, there are some other essential home office hacks that can help you improve how you look and feel on camera.

Look after your skin

You may not realize it, but your skin is constantly exposed to external attacks that can lead to breakouts, rashes, or premature aging. Your home office is not necessarily safer than the outdoor world.

Therefore, you want to make sure you establish a skin-friendly environment. Dust, for instance, can increase the risk of clogged-up pores, which is the number one cause of unwanted zips! It's important to make it a habit to keep your home office dust-free, especially if you have pets!

The addition of a fan will promote air circulation, keeping your skin feeling fresh and relaxed.

It's bright, do I need glasses?

Ideally, you want to create a work environment with no sun glare. So, you may need to change the position of the screen or even add anti-sun glare protection, which you can add to the laptop.

Another important type of light that can make you look and feel tired, which will show on camera, is blue light. Blue light can affect your eye health, leading to blurry vision and eyestrain. You may not notice any difference in your vision when you are close to the screen, but it could make you squint to adjust. As a result, you are likely to notice lines around your eyes and on your forehead. It may be a good idea to give your eyes a rest with screen light blocking glasses. There are plenty of fashionable places, such as Vint & York, where you can find a gorgeous pair of glasses that will enhance your features on camera.

Wear sunscreen protection

Should you wear SPF even at home? The answer is yes. You may not need the same level of protection as someone who spends a lot of time outside, but your skin could still be exposed to harmful UV rays. Dermatologists recommend wearing SPF30 protection at home. Invest in everyday wear sunscreen cream, such as a hydrating cream with SPF protection, which will be light on the skin and will not show on Zoom!

Looking after your skin can considerably transform what people see on Zoom. While Zoom does not show a realistic image of your facial features, it can significantly enhance minor defaults and issues. Sometimes, making small changes to your environment and skincare routine can go a long way.
