Alternative Foods For Common Food Allergies And Intolerances

We all know that to keep ourselves fit and healthy we need to eat right and exercise regularly. But what about those of us that have allergies or intolerances to certain foods? If you’re unfortunate to suffer with any food allergies or intolerances, then you will know how hard it can be to still give your body what it needs. In this article, I’m going to give you a few alternatives to common allergies and intolerances.

Eggs are a very common food to be allergic to. Unfortunately, they offer a fantastic source of protein so if you’re unable to eat them, then you’re missing out on a large chunk of protein that could be in your diet. To replace the protein you’re losing with your allergy, try eating fish, (although a common thing for people with an egg allergy is also having a fish allergy too) meat, pulses, nuts and cheese. Other foods do contain protein, but not as high of an amount as the products mentioned.

Caffeine intolerances are something that affect thousands of people without them even knowing. With a food intolerance, people don’t often associate the reason for them not feeling well with the product straight away. If caffeine doesn’t agree with you, you’re likely to be experiencing palpitations, anxiety, racing heart, restless leg syndrome, high blood pressure and IBS. If this is the case, try cutting out caffeine and replacing your morning drink with a skinny tea or a fruit juice. You will feel so much better in no time!

Peanuts are among the top few that people are allergic to, and unfortunately, having an anaphylactic shock to peanuts can be deadly. Nuts offer fibre and vitamin E along with many other health benefits. So how can you replace nuts? Try adding sunflower and pumpkin seeds to your diet along with olives and avocados. They all contain the nutrients you will have lost by not being able to eat nuts.

Having a gluten intolerance is something that again, many people will live years of their lives without realizing they have it. If you have celiac disease you must totally avoid all products that contain gluten. Luckily, there are alternatives available for people with celiac disease, or just an intolerance to gluten. Some people however, choose to follow a gluten free diet even without any intolerance to it because it’s a low fat, healthy and nutritious diet. Many people have lost lots of weight by simply going gluten free.

If you’re not feeling quite right a lot of the time, try to think of something that you consume regularly and try cutting it out. If you begin to feel better, then it’s likely that you’re intolerant to that product. It can take a while to work out which food or drink is affecting you, but as soon as you work it out you will start to feel better. Remember, having a food allergy or intolerance isn’t the end of the world, and there are ways around it.
