World’s Thinnest Home Phone Wins Top Design Award (Meet the Motorola IT.6)

A British-designed phone has just scooped a coveted international award - the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2014! With all the innovations in cell phone and tablets, sometimes we forget about land lines! But with this beauty, you'll be looking for reasons to use your house phone! {Product provided for feature consideration}

London-based design firm Curventa has bagged the honor together with its long-standing client SGW Global for its design of one of the hottest new phones on the market - the Motorola IT.6, which at just 6mm is the world’s thinnest home cordless phone. SGW Global commissioned the project to create the flagship product for its Motorola portfolio of home cordless telephones.

The IT.6 builds upon Motorola's heritage of phones that combine beautiful design with the latest technology. From the sleek aluminium exoskeleton to a handset that appears to float in a block of glass, every detail has been crafted and engineered to give a premium experience. This combines with Bluetooth connectivity that enables all mobile calls to transfer to the IT.6 when in the home, as well as automatic smartphone contact synchronisation.

Malcolm Paton, Executive Director of SGW, which manufactures and distributes the new phone, is excited by the marriage of looks and functionality: “The specification for the IT.6 demanded the highest level of engineering skill and we aimed to create the world's thinnest home phone, but also a true object of beauty - not only to look at but to hold and use," he says.

Ian Murison, Director of Curventa, is delighted to have won the award: “The Red Dot Awards are the most prestigious in the design world, so to have won the Product Design category against incredibly stiff opposition is a dream come true for us,” he says. “It is testament to the skills of the whole Curventa team, who put an enormous amount of work into designing something we believe is the best-looking home cordless phone on the market and one that is going to have a huge impact at retail.”

I'm not gonna lie, it's been AGES since we've had a phone connected to our landline at home - but I'm stoked to have this lovely bit of award winning tech in my home! It fits in seamlessly with our other electronics and adds a touch of sleek sophistication to our entertainment center where it's displayed. Are you like my household - do you rely predominantly on your cellular devices for your phone calls? If so, the Motorola IT.6 may just be the device for you! It's available for purchase for $69.99 at Target and target.com. Until next time...
