We all have the dreaded “off days” and “bad spells” where just the act of getting out of bed can feel like planning a funeral; something you just don’t want to do. There are many reasons we have days like this and while they are a normal part of life, there are some things you can do to get you through mild depressions.

Being stuck inside because of Covid-19 is enough to wear anyone down and we should all be proud of ourselves for getting through this terrible period of human history, and you may also be suffering from Seasonal Anxiety Disorder which causes physiological and psychological changes brought on by environmental changes.

Whatever your issue seems to be, you can do a lot to help yourself, and some of the best things to do include:

  • Grooming

  • Supplements

  • Exercise

Not Seeing anyone doesn’t mean that you should slack off when it comes to how you look and getting some extra supplements to replace anything you may be lacking at the moment can provide a great boost to your moods while exercise is a tried and tested method of relieving stress and tension.

Look Good, Feel Great

You may not be going to work or seeing many people at the moment but looking after your personal style is still important. You may have heard the phrase “look good, feel great”, well, that is actually true. When you know you look good it removes a stress factor from your subconscious freeing the brain to focus on other things.

Styling yourself to look good also removes any social stigma that could be attached to not trying to look your best, especially if you are in situations where you will be interacting with other people and might be anxious about being judged on the basis of your appearance.

There are tons of styling tips out there, so check your favorite website or YouTube for seasonal inspiration, fashion tips, and the current trends in style.

Last Son of Krypton

During the winter, most of us don’t get out as much as we usually would because of the colder and more unpredictable weather, and with Coronavirus on top of it from 2020 into the new year, we have been inside even more. This can lead to, at the least, a lack of vitamin D which is used to energize us by absorbing sunlight, just like Superman.

Vitamin D is essential in maintaining bone structure and can cause severe illnesses such as Rickets if you don’t intake enough of it and one study has suggested a link between vitamin D deficiency and Covid-19 symptoms.

Vitamin D is found in few foods and cannot be produced by the body unless outside in the sun but some of the best foods for it are liver, beef, egg yolks, and oily fish.

The Most Natural Remedy

You will no doubt have been told this many times by doctors, friends, or family members but exercising can make you feel better. While it is difficult at first which makes it easy to put off, exercise is a genuine method of alleviating stress and depression. No one is suggesting that you fork out for an expensive pass, hit the gym, and workout like a Rocky montage since light exercise such as walking and even cleaning the home is enough.

Rigorous physical movement encourages the brain to release serotonin and dopamine, these are the natural chemicals that make you feel good when doing something enjoyable such as running, eating your favorite food, or laughing.

A lack of serotonin has strong links to severe mood disorders such as depression and anxiety.
