Kiss the Night Away with NYC Smooch Proof 16HR Lipstain! (Swatches)
As I confessed in my December MAC Matters post, even on the occasions I wear something on my lips other than balm, after the initial application, I oftentimes forget to go through the process of reapplication when the product inevitably wears off. Well New York Colors solves that problem with their Smooch Proof 16HR Lipstain!

A Trip to Margaritaville! AKA: The Drink of the Week!
(You all are already familiar with my talented hubby's photography, but this marks his first written contribution to Mama Fashionista-and the introduction of a regular series "The Drink of the Week.")
Wastin’ away in Margaritaville indeed...
As in most households over the holidays, the liquid libations were in full effect at our abode. From vodka, to tequila, to rum, to beer and back again, the Island Lime beverages were definitely among the crowd favorites. Sure it’s not as smooth or as relaxing as sipping a goblet of Grand Marnier, but it’s fun, and the amount of empty bottles that I put out on the curb was evidence that our guests agreed.
Now while the Corona bottles stacked almost just as high, all in all, Margaritaville 5 O'Clock Cocktails Island Lime Margarita is a great alternative to beer. Served ice cold, there’s a nice hint of lime, and they manage to give you a smooth, pretty authentic margarita feel. Let’s be honest, when it comes to alcoholic beverages, there are many levels of enjoyment. If the sophistication of a good cognac is what you’re craving, then this is probably not the drink for you, but if good times and good laughs with good friends is your objective, go ahead and give these a try. You might be pleasantly surprised...
One sip of the Margaritaville 5 O'Clock Cocktails Island Lime Margarita, and I was whisked away to the tropics, sitting in front of a stage watching Jimmy Buffett strum his six string with the crowd singing along. Well not exactly, but you get the idea. Sure, there’s nothing like a strong, authentic, two sip tipsy, salt around the rim margarita. But, if you don’t have the time or the budget, these cocktails are a pretty good option with a potent 8% alcohol content.

December 2012 MAC Matters Purchase-The Eyes Have It Again!
Before I share what I purchased for this month's installment of MAC Matters, here's a brief recap of what this whole shindig is about:
This series is the brain child of the fabulous Pam of Pammy Blogs Beauty. She basically decided that instead of continuing a subscription to a beauty box service, she'd use the money ($21) to build a core collection of products from MAC Cosmetics. I read about it and immediately asked if I could do it with her.
Here are the rules for the MAC Matters Makeup Challenge:
Goal: Build a core MAC Collection using an average of $21.00 per month. (Pam came up with this amount because it is what she was spending on a monthly subscription service that she decided to cancel.)Purchase at least one item a month: If the item is under $21, save the remainder for the next month. While there are many items priced under $21, there are plenty that are over the $21 range that we can save for. Some months, we will be "saving" the $21 to go towards a bigger MAC purchase.
Do a monthly blog post to share what we purchased! The goal is to continue this series for 12 months to see what kind of core collection we each can build! (I also think it will be very interesting to see the difference in the products we choose to purchase and what constitutes a "core collection" for us individually.)
Last month, my first MAC Matters purchase was an empty Pro Palette Eye Shadow x 4 and All That Glitters eye shadow...

gud Last Minute Gift Ideas!
For the most part, it's too late to do any on line shopping for the holidays, but don't fret! If there are still a few lovelies left on your gift giving list (and you're willing to brave the last minute shopping crowds), here are some great suggestions suitable for ladies of any age from gud!
gud Body Mist in Pearanormal Activity- This pear meets acai berry combo is bright, fresh, and uniquely unexpected! Considering that there are no parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, or any of the other icky things put in some products, the potency of this scent is quite surprising. Bath and Body Works' Love Love Love AKA: Today's Smell Good
Y'all know I love fragrance! I'm constantly using something different because so many different things smell so good to me and I tend to choose scents according to my mood. Today I selected Love Love Love from Bath and Body Works and am utterly intoxicated with its sweet effervescence! The first time I used it, I was sort of overwhelmed by how much it smelled like grape Jolly Ranchers, and I contemplated exchanging it (gotta love the 100% satisfaction guarantee that BBW has), but I'm SO GLAD I gave it another shot. This stuff is GOOD! And how much do you love the labels?!?! They're like a beautiful Monet!
Anyway, BBW describes the scent as "a lovely trio of white plum, peony petals and glittering vanilla musk." The top notes are succlulent berries, white plum, and juicy pear (which I suppose accounts for my thoughts of grape flavored hard candies), with mid notes of peony petals, lily of the valley, and freesia (and I am all about some freesia). All I know is, regardless of the description, my nose says it smells so so good! Bright and fruity/floral; just an uber feminine and unique fragrance. This is the perfect little fragrant pick me up to help you brighten up any gray day.

The Best Beauty News on the Web! AKA: THe BBC Weekly Roundup (12-16-2012)
Bring Local Flavors to the Table with Winn-Dixie!
My family doesn’t partake in the traditional celebrations of
holidays, but I can honestly say that I do enjoy the “holiday season.” I see it
as an opportunity to take advantage of awesome sales and most importantly,
enjoy some much needed, extended family time. My home does not feel complete to
me until my hubby walks in the door, so I love when he has the day off to spend
with us. Not to mention that if he has a few consecutive days off, we often
trek down to see my parents and spend quality time with them as well. Of
course, cooking (and sometimes baking) comes in to play on these occasions. My
father and I share a deep love for baked goods and confections and though I don’t
bake often, when I do, I try to make it something special, which doesn’t mean
fancy, just delicious!
I’ve been cooking since I was about 12 years old; I’m the
oldest of three and my mother and father worked outside of the house. Preparing
dinner started as a way for me to help fill a need for my family and help out
my mother. I soon discovered that I have a knack for it. I’ve never been one to
follow recipes per say. I have found that when I cook off the cuff, I tend to
prepare the best dishes. Now that I’m married and have a family of my own,
cooking has taken on an even bigger role in my daily duties-as a SAHM, I find
myself cooking 2-3 meals a day, at least 5 days a week. I see it as an act of
love and care for my family and I can’t describe the joy I feel when one them
tells me that what I prepared tastes good!
I love to cook. In fact, my family knows that there must be something
wrong with me if I ever utter the phrase “I don’t feel like cooking.” There is
something very relaxing to me about the process of preparing a meal or dish and
the satisfaction I feel, knowing that I am doing something necessary for my
loved ones, that they will really enjoy, really speaks to something within my
soul. It’s part of my nurturing nature that connects with the whole act of
cooking-not to mention the fact that I love to eat!
I was born and raised in the South, and reside in the South
still, with my family. There are certain dishes that are staples to Southern
culture when it comes to big occasions or family gatherings: collard greens (we
prefer ours spiked with red pepper flakes and with a smoked turkey leg), sweet potato
casserole (with the requisite mini marshmallow blanket), copious amounts of
stuffing/dressing (my dad uses a recipe that’s been passed down for
generations), deep fried turkey (or some other form of delectable poultry as my
father does not partake of pork or red meat), and often times a candy glazed ham
(to appease the rest of us with less strict dietary requirements). My
contribution to this feast is dessert-pound cake!

Everybody Loves a Winner! AKA: My Win from The Organized Parent and Cid Pear
If you know me IRL, you know that I have had a life long obsession with pens and paper. I can't really explain it, other than perhaps it's the writer in me-I'm so paranoid that the perfect line/thought will come to me and I will not have pen and paper on hand to write it down. And even in this age of technology, where just about everything can be accomplished via your handy dandy smart phone (I heart you iPhone 5), for me there is nothing that compares to the satisfaction of exorcising my thoughts by putting pen to paper. So I collect. And collect. One of the subcategories of paper that I collect (because each notebook/pad/etc. is meant for totally unique purposes) are organizers and pads for lists. In that vein, I recently had the pleasure of winning a giveaway from The Organized Parent (one of my favorite organizational sites) that included one of the most awesomest (yeah I said "awesomest") prizes ever!

A War of the Roses Where Everybody Wins! AKA: A Gift Guide
Fresh roses are awesome (if you're into that sort of thing), but they're pretty for a while and then they die... and leave a mess. So if you want to give the gift of roses, perhaps ponder something a bit more permanent-like skincare!
Bath and Body Works' Cashmere Glow AKA: Today's Smell Good!
Y'all know I love fragrance! I'm constantly using something different because so many different things smell so good to me and I tend to choose scents according to my mood. Today I selected Cashmere Glow from Bath and Body Works and feel cocooned in luxurious warmth. This stuff is GOOD! And I love the little touch of rose gold they added to the packaging with the caps; it adds to the overall luxe effect of the the product.
Anyway, BBW describes the scent as "a warm blend of golden peach and shimmering vanilla with a heart of soft cashmere musk, inspired by being wrapped in luxury." Um yeah... I think they hit the nail on the head with that description (and I tend to think those little tidbits are a tad corny)! Reading it helps me to understand why I love it so-I'm all about peach anything! I find the fragrance to be rich, warm, and sexy-perfect for the fall/winter and exactly the right thing to spritz when you want to cuddle up with your honey.
Right now, Bath and Body Works has a gorgeous gift set that is perfect to give (or receive/keep) and it's a pretty great value too at $32.50...

Honey Curls 4 Step System Set AKA: A Curly Girl Chronicle
If you follow me on Instagram (which you really should be doing), then you got a bit of a preview of this CGC. Honey Curls is a cruelty free hair care line (targeted towards the junior market) from Canada. This is my first time using them, and at first my expectations weren't high (idk exactly why, probably because they have no discernible scent), but now I am super impressed. My curls look fantastic, shiny, and defined AND I'm pretty sure the amount of shrinkage that usually occurs was reduced. I used all four products as directed, and my hair is not crunchy, sticky, or heavy. I think I may be in love...

Gift the "Hostess with the Mostess" with Roux Maison!
I hate doing laundry. Well, technically, I hate folding laundry and putting it away. The sorting and actual washing is ok-but I hang a lot of our clothes to dry to in order to maintain their size, color, and shape and it's a general pain in my backside. But I digress...
I think it has been fairly well established that I like for things to smell good. That goes for my household products as well, including laundry detergent. So I surely would not turn up my nose (or even be mildly offended) if someone graciously gifted me with the luxury, eco friendly goodness that is Roux Maison laundry products..

A Stroll in the Park! AKA: An OOTD Post
We took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and headed down to the park for a couples' photo shoot. Anyway, here are the shots of me (and the lil bits) that I did not veto...
