Discover What's New From Avon: Anew Genics Treatment Concentrate

In August, Avon will debut a technological breakthrough in skincare, 10 years in the making! Anew Genics Treatment Concentrate uses genetic research scientists uncovered to tap into the secret to human longevity to help you look up to 10 years younger (I just realized the irony of it taking 10 years of research and it taking 10 years off of your skin's appearance).

Because Socialites Have Great Skin: Introducing vbeaute

I just received this kit, so I haven't had the chance to try it out yet. But if looks are any kind of indicator, I can tell you I have high hopes for this-just based on my first impression. The compact is so sleek and luxe; who would've thought to put your skin care in to a compact and include a mirror? I literally "ooohhhed" when I picked it up and felt how sleek and sturdy it was and audibly gasped when I opened it and received the unexpected surprise of a mirror.

vbeaute's It Kit is the creation of socialite Julie Macklowe, who partnered with one of the world’s most respected manufacturing labs in Switzerland to formulate a five-piece skin-care line that features powerful botanical technology-stem cells from the Alpine Rose. Macklowe calls these “longevity botanicals,"  because these anti-oxidant loaded molecules are what has helped the plant endure harsh conditions, such as extreme cold, relentless UV rays, and severe dryness. The idea is that your skin can benefit from the plant’s resiliency in an anti-aging capacity.

Stocked with all the everyday essentials, the It Kit contains a cleanser, exfoliator, protecting serum, moisturizing cream, and an eye-cream, all in a refillable TSA-friendly containers (And trust me, looking at this compact just makes me want to toss it in a large Louis Vuitton tote and charter a private jet to Fiji; it really gives off a real sense of luxury). The entire vbeaute collection  is fragrance, gluten, paraben, oat and nut- free. It is dermatologist tested and not tested on animals.

Here are more details about Julie and the products available from vbeaute.

Testing, Testing: AHA Brazilian Peel Clear, Pt. 1

It's possible that I try out more skin care products than the average woman: don't be jelly though, it's all for you lovelies (ha)! Since I like to take at least a few weeks to do accurate reviews on skin care items, I thought that perhaps I would start doing an introduction to a product right as I begin to test it. That way if you were thinking about making a purchase but were unsure, or maybe you have a specific need but don't know what's out there, this could give you a heads up. Then after I've had some time to try it and see how it works, I'll come back with a follow up review/results post.

GMYMO-A Healthy Snack the Kids and I Can Agree On

This post totally brings to mind for me an e card I saw on Facebook this weekend: it was something about a mom feeling no shame for having to hide in the closet to eat a candy bar so as to not have to share with her kids. I can SO relate to that sentiment, although I don't hide in the closet, I just resign myself to have to share EVERYTHING with my girls (I promise you, I have not enjoyed a single piece of food in it's entirety, in the presence of my kids in the last 11 or so years).

In my effort to get in better shape, I've not only adjusted my exercise routine (by actually having one), I've turned attention to my diet as well. I have a really aggressive and persistent sweet tooth and sometimes fruit just won't cut it. I love Jelly Belly jelly beans, Skittles, Starbursts, Airheads, Now and Laters, Mambas, Twizzlers, and so many more gummy, fruity candies, it's kind of ridiculous. Once upon a time, you could count on me to have a wide variety of candy readily available, but in order to better my health and fitness, I've really tapered down my sugar habit. But I miss my sweets!!!

Who knew that the solution to my cravings was a treat that I regularly purchase for my girls: fruit snacks! Not just any fruit snack though...

Weekend Uniform

Weekend Uniform

MAC Cosmetics mascara
nordstrom.com

Inspired by the Ralph Lauren Big Pony 3 fragrance for women that I wore this weekend to the mall. In case you couldn't tell, the trip included a stop by the MAC counter too :) It's actually very similar to what I wear when running errands with the fam: skinnies, tote bag, some arm candy, aviators, and sky high wedges! Until next time...

I Might Be Obsessed: Argan Oil Edition

I Might Be Obsessed: Argan Oil Edition
I Might Be Obsessed: Argan Oil Edition by mamafashionist1 featuring Josie Maran body moisturizers

I LOVE ARGAN OIL! To me, it is like the nectar of the gods. Women in Morocco have been using Argan oil for generations to achieve more youthful, healthy skin. It reduces inflammation and redness, improves hydration, and can even been used to treat scars and acne. You can also use it as a hair treatment for deep conditioning or as a pre-styling product to add instant shine. It’s also packed with twice as much Vitamin E as other oils so it's amazing for your nails and cuticles. I LOVE THIS STUFF! It's a good thing that there's an abundance of it on the market, and trust me, I've made it my duty to try every one. Here are the brands/versions I'm loving so far...

MAC Wishlist: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition

MAC Wish List: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition

MAC Wish List: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition by mamafashionist1 featuring lip makeup

Oh MAC! I think the reason that it took me so long to make my first purchase from the brand was because subconsciously I knew that it was a slippery slope that would lead me to want to spend ALL of my money! Plus, I'm a total sucker for anything limited edition, so I'm forever longing for at least a few goodies from the latest collection (that seem to to be popping up faster than I can keep up with).

I was able to attend a fun little beauty event at my local Nordstrom recently, and one thing I learned was that Nordstrom was actually the first specialty retailer to sell MAC Cosmetics. This established a very special relationship between MAC Cosmetics and Nordstrom and so often times there are items available there that you can't get at other retailers-this latest collection is an example of such.

GMYMO: Jump Rope Fitness

In my fitness journey, I've realized that in order for me to stay motivated to work out regularly, it has to be fun. And to get the best results, you have to change up your routine occasionally so that your body is forced to adjust and work differently/harder. So while I love my Zumba, I was on the lookout for something that was easy to do at home, in limited space, and with my little ones under foot.

Help Your Kids Say Boo! to Summer Time Lice with So Cozy

I don't like bugs, and neither do my girls (or my hubby for that matter). That might seem like a "duh!" statement, but last night we just watched an episode of "Ridiculousness" on MTV where some IDIOT actually reached out to touch a huge poisonous spider and then had the audacity to be shocked when the spider bit him. No matter whether you are like me and completely averse to all things creepy crawley or an amateur entomologist (insect enthusiast), any sane person knows to be wary and take precautions against parasitic, disease carrying, poisonous, or simply nuisance causing insects. It is in that vein that I am happy to share this inventive, preventative, hair product for your precious little ones from So Cozy.

Boo! Group Shot (Web)
So Cozy Boo! Shampoo and Conditioner

With summer camp in full swing, team building activities and close quarters during camp promote sharing, and lice can crawl onto hairbrushes, hats and pillowcases of your child(ren). Scare lice away before they haunt your little one.

Trusted parent and kids’ hair authority Cozy Friedman suggests So Cozy’s Boo! shampoo and conditioner to help repel summer camp lice' Its active ingredient of tea tree oil is the strongest natural repellent of these pesky little bugs whose busiest time of year is during the summer months.

So Cozy's Boo! shampoo and conditioner ($14.50 each) is gentle enough for daily use on your child's tresses while also providing maximum defense against lice. Save your child's summer camp memories and have peace of mind by using So Cozy's Boo! shampoo and conditioner.

There is an entire line of Shea Butter products for natural hair from Cantu. Here's a peek at what they have to offer.

MMM: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro

From l-r: Bare Naked, Steel Grey, Posh Pink, Cherry Fashion, Wild Orchid

I've long been a fan of Rimmel London for their quality, yet inexpensive cosmetics. They have a huge variety of products and such a wide selection of colors in any given category-there's really something there for everyone. I particularly love several of their mascara formulas (including Scandal'Eyes), Match Perfection Bronzer, and I have more than a handful of their eyeliners (the Professional Eyebrow Pencil and Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencils in Jet Black, Pure White and Jungle Green are all things that I repurchase every time I run out). So I was surprised to find out that there was a product in their extensive product line that I was totally unfamiliar with.

ARQUISTE Fragrances

I was first introduced to ARQUISTE fragrances through a sample in one of my Birchboxes; I actually liked my sample of Flor y Canto so much, I thought about purchasing it (until I saw the $165 price tag). I even took to my Facebook page and jokingly cursed Birchbox for making me desire something so far outside of what my budget (and hubby) will allow for a perfume.

Given the time, research, and thought given into each of the six fragrances crafted by architect Carlos Huber, and the evocative experience each one is meant to provide, I can understand the asking price. They truly are luxury fragrances meant to take you to another time and place. Meet the fragrances of ARQUISTE parfumeur...

CGC: Silky International Silky the Cap

photo via naturallycurly.com

Product Description:   Silky the cap is a 100% suede-like rayon bonnet style cap. Daily wear of Silky will protect your hair from becoming brittle, dry and damaged, thus preserving all your beautiful hairstyles with vigor and shine. The soft elastic edge will not rub out your edges, just push your cap up to the hairline and sleep or go about your day….enjoy!!

My Take:  I like this cap WAY better than the ones I had been getting at Target for $3. The material is way more luxe and the elastic band keeps it shape a LOT better (I find that, especially with my daughter, the cheaper ones need to be replaced quite often). It fits close enough to your head to not slip and fall off over night (important if you're a rough sleeper), is roomy enough to fit a lot of hair (even in a pineapple), but not so tight as to be uncomfortable and leave marks on your forehead. So while it is a bit pricey, there are quite a few attributes that warrant it costing more than your average sleeping cap. I'm not sure that $25 is the right price, but I do think that it is worth more than other caps on the market.

PS- Product was sent for the purpose of review by the company and NaturallyCurly.com. I was not paid for this review and all opinions stated are 100% honest and my own :)

Melvita All Stars by mamafashionist1 featuring a face care

I've shared my love for Melvita's Rose Nectar collection and their Extraordinary Waters , but honestly I am so impressed with the quality of the products that I've tried from the French organic beauty pioneer, that several of the products have earned a place in my daily rotation of products for skin care and maintenance, for both myself and my lil bits!

Basic Face

Basic Face

Basic Face by quinn-ryan-smith featuring urban decay eyeliner

For the longest time, I felt totally comfortable leaving the house without a bit of makeup on (unless you count lip balm or gloss as makeup). Then I realized what a difference it made to my overall look when I simply applied some black eyeliner, and a sort of signature look was born (to this day I do not walk out the door without black liquid or gel liner on my upper lash line with at least a slight wing to exaggerate the shape of my, what I consider to be small, eyes). Then I discovered the importance of filling in my brows (they do frame your face), and so on and so forth. So while I could still venture outside in total comfort with no makeup (except for the aforementioned liner and balm), I know that I walk a little taller, smile a little brighter, and exude a bit more confidence when I take a few simple steps to better present myself to the outside world. Thus my basic face was born.

I use this routine when I'm going to out and about, perhaps just running errands with the lil bits or for a trip to the mall with my family. It's simple and quick, but honestly makes a world of difference for my appearance. The end result is something that's equal parts chic and natural; I look perfectly put together, yet effortless.

Nail Fail :(

I'm always honest about my feelings/thoughts when I write a post, whether it's a review or just commentary. In general, I'm a very optimistic person and prefer to see the glass half full in life, which is reflected in my reviews. Even if I don't particularly care for a product, while I try to express my personal displeasure, I also strive to highlight some positive aspect, because I know that mine is certainly not the end all decision. I also generally don't like talking about things that I don't like, because well, it's not fun and it's not really my style. So perhaps this attitude has contributed to more of a "happy happy joy joy" vibe on Mama Fashionista, and while I'm cool with that, I do see the need to maybe be more balanced in my outlook/approach.

I've been contemplating how exactly to address this issue, how and when to bite the bullet and give a "negative" review, with obvious answer being, just continue to be honest and when something you don't like comes along, be tactful, but don't sugar coat it either. Well lovelies, it seems that the appropriate opportunity has presented itself.

I've expressed several times (and will continue to do so) my affection for painting my nails. It's a whole ritual we have at home on a fairly regular basis, and it's quite enjoyable for me and my girls. Part of the whole process is removing old polish in order to start anew. To that effect, I super excited to try Cutex' Advance Revival Nail Polish Remover One-Step Pads. Not only was is it formulated to strengthen and nourish your nails with botanical oils, it comes in a handy dandy, pre soaked, generously sized felt pad, presumably large enough to remove the polish from all 10 of your fingers. Um.... no...

For the sake of tact, I will try to keep this brief. The came out of the package moist, and possibly sufficiently so, but I would have preferred it to be a bit more saturated in solution. That being said, it being more wet probably wouldn't have helped the fact that it seems as if the solution does not work. At all. I mean, I tried just rubbing it on my pinky nail (figured it was the smallest and thus the easiest surface to test) and the polish did not budge. Not a bit. So I rubbed a little more vigorously. Nothing. So then I held the pad to my finger for a bit, and then rubbed. Nada. So I thought, perhaps the adorable Sally Hansen strips were special and needed an acetone based remover in order to come off. Ok! This will certainly work on the normal polish I have on my toes! So once again I tried my pinky (toe). Same (non) results. So for me, it's officially a fail.

I'm kind of disappointed. As I said, I was excited about this product, not only for it's sheer convenience, but also because of it's portability. I had visions of carrying the little packets in my purse to do on the go repairs and impromptu polish changes whenever and where ever. But it is not to be. C'est la vie....

Have you tried these wipes? Did they fair better for you? Do you have any alternate suggestions for me? My inquiring mind wants to know! Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Until next time...

My Straight Hair Dream Team from Flat Iron Experts

In this month's Texture Perspective segment on NaturallyCurly.com, straightening is the topic of discussion. For me, I have evolved from the old hot comb, through several different flat irons, to the gem that I use now, courtesy of Flat Iron Experts.

Atopalm Perfectly Polishes Your Pedicure

I told you lovelies that I love alliteration (I think I may sense a on going theme for Mama Fashionista...), thus this posts title. I LOVE shoes and some of favorite styles openly showcase lots of skin on my feet. My toes can be as pretty and polished as they wanna be, but that means nada if the skin surrounding them is dry, ashy, and cracked. An awesome polish job is absolutely worthless if your feet are not well taken care of and moisturized! Sometimes that means that your standard body lotion is not sufficient to properly address the needs of your tootsies, especially during the hot summer months, when they are particularly exposed to the elements.

Landlocked? Let Bath and Body Works Malibu Heat Transport You to the Beach!

Bath and Body Works Signature Collection Malibu Heat Body Lotion , Shower Gel, and Fine  Fragrance Mist

Remember those old Calgon commercials? You know, "Oh Calgon! Take me away!" That's exactly what I think of when I smell Malibu Heat, one of the latest additions to Bath and Body Works Signature Collection. It is like the beach in a bottle and in an instant you feel transported ocean side. The scent is described as "a fresh blend of juicy pineapple, California orange and creamy coconut milk inspired by hot pink sunsets and twenty-seven miles of beautiful beach." My nose translates that to fun in the sand, surf and sunshine, with hints of salt water, coconut tanning oil, and creamy pina coladas (with lots of fruit and strong rum). I think I may be in need of a tropical vacation ASAP (or maybe just some quality bath time with out the girls joining me or banging on the bathroom door until I get out; I'd honestly be happy with either option).
