MAC Matters! AKA: A Collaborative New Series with Pammy Blogs Beauty

Color me super stoked! I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, and found an intriguing link from one of my fellow BBC and MABB members, Pammy Blogs Beauty.  She started a blog series entitled: MAC Matters: Build A Core Collection with $21 per month, and I immediately thought "YES!!!! I must do this too!" So with her permission, we are going to do this series/challenge together!

You can find her original post explaining the concept here, but here is a brief synopsis (in her words):

I know that I am not alone with my love of all-things MAC. Many of you are fellow MACaddicts. When I think of MAC, besides thinking of all of their limited edition collections, I think of great basics! Seriously, I could build an entire makeup collection of just MAC products. You can cover all bases with MAC: great color selection, great quality professional products, affordably priced for a high end line, sleek packaging, and all you need for face, eyes, cheeks, and tools!

So, building a core-basics makeup collection is just the idea here. Often I go for the newest and greatest makeup item available and neglect my basics! So, follow me through this monthly journey to build my core MAC makeup items and MAC must-haves!

Now, I'm personally fairly new to the MAC bandwagon, but I love them! I too have been mainly focused on acquiring limited edition goodies, so focusing on the brand with the goal of building a solid foundation of basics is a great idea for me! Like Pam, I need an amazing foundation and a perfect concealer, but also a go to bronzer/contouring powder, a custom eye shadow palette, and a more well rounded lippie collection (that's where my makeup stash is truly lacking).

Here are the rules for the MAC Matters Makeup Challenge:

Goal: Build a core MAC Collection using an average of $21.00 per month. (Pam came up with this amount because it is what she was spending on a monthly subscription service that she decided to cancel.)

  • Purchase at least one item a month: If the item is under $20, save the remainder for the next month. While there are many items priced under $20, there are plenty that are over the $20 range that we can save for. Some months, we will be "saving" the $21 to go towards a bigger MAC purchase.
  • Do a monthly blog post to share what we purchased! The goal is to continue this series for 12 months to see what kind of core collection we each can build! (I also think it will be very interesting to see the difference in the products we choose to purchase and what constitutes a "core collection" for us individually.)

Because I know that MAC will be coming up with LE collections that I will not be able to resist (Betty & Veronica, anybody?), in addition to the "Build a Core MAC Collection" purchases, I will also be posting about new acquisitions that don't fit into the core collection category, as well as occasional posts (or perhaps just one introductory post, since I currently don't have many MAC basics) entitled: "MAC Matters: From the Stash" (also a genius idea from Pam)!

I can not even begin to tell you how excited I am over this makeup journey! I am so grateful to Pam for coming up with this and for letting me join her in doing it. I will link to her post every month as she shares her picks and I invite you to follow her blog, Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram! Also, it would be wonderful if you wanted to play along with us! And if you have any suggestions as far as must have items to build my core collection, leave a comment below! Until next time...

  1. I am so excited that you are joining me with this new blog series Quinn! We are going to have so much fun. I think Limited Edition items are totally in our scope if they fit into a makeup "basics" category that we need. You mentioned wanting to expand your lippies collection. So, I say that a limited edition lippie purchase totally counts towards your core items? What do you think? Bulding a palette with eye shadow basics is one of my goals as it finding a great cream highlighter and a fabulous contouring powder. Can't wait to get started with this! Yay!!!
