MABB Weekly Beauty Question

Photobucket

Each Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun!

This week's question is...
How old were you when you got into makeup?

This is a GREAT question! I reflect on this often these days because I have a 12 year old daughter that has been totally preoccupied with being able to wear makeup for quite a while now, and I've had to explain to her that her time will come and that I did not stress my mom out about it; it just happened when it happened. That being said, I am the oldest of 3 with two younger brothers, so I didn't have a big sister or close female relative to seek to emulate. I think that delayed my urgency to wear makeup quite a bit. I was an avid reader of many teen magazines from the time I was about 10 or 11: Teen, Seventeen, Jane, Mademoiselle, Sassy, etc. And I would pour over the style and beauty pages, so I guess you can say that I "got into" makeup at that point. But at that age I was content with Bonne Bell lipgloss and Lipsmackers and nail polish as my cosmetics of choice. It wasn't until I was about 12 that I wanted to wear lipstick, and then at 13 I added clear mascara to my beauty routine. I didn't start wearing face makeup until after high school (and to this day, it's just not something that I reach for on a regular basis), but I did start experimenting with eye makeup in high school. Freshman year I could only apply liner to my lower lashline, but even then I winged it out a bit. By sophomore year, I had discovered the wonders of liquid liner, thus beginning a life long love affair. By my junior and senior years, I had become quite adept at applying eye makeup and enjoyed experimenting with all kinds of colors, combinations, and techniques.

    1. Those were the good old days, huh? I even remember when they introduced (and got rid of) Teen People and Teen Vogue. Now my daughter wants to read Seventeen and Teen Vogue, and while we have subscriptions to both, I have to read them before I allow her to see them, as some of the content is just not suitable for a girl her age. I don't remember it being like that when I was reading them, but perhaps it's too far back for me to remember accurately. What was your favorite 'zine when you were younger?
