Be Chic Literate (Part One)

I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, and as such, I am a firm believer in the power of the written word. Books do so much for a person, they educate, broaden horizons, and allow the imagination the opportunity to soar and explore places a body may not ever experience. My favorite things to give my girls are books, I love discussing them with my friends (it's a wonder I haven't started or joined a book club), and I could spend hours upon hours in my local library, Barnes & Noble, or on Amazon.

You can not imagine my excitement at being given the opportunity to review 3 new books! They are all very different, but very much in the same vein due to their overwhelming relevance in any given "fashionista's" life. Here is the first:

THE WELL-DRESSED HOME
(Annette Tatum)

The concept of this innovative interior design book is to draw from your own individual fashion and style sense to inspire and create a personalized living space that uniquely reflects you. Annette explains how to determine your personal style aesthetics (it's amazing how much a close examination of your closet can tell about you) and how to use that visual inspiration as basis for decorating.  A style guide is utilized to identify your personal style sense using the following categories: Romantic, Couture, Classic, Casual, Bohemian, Retro, Resort, Modern, Eclectic, Vintage, and Eco. What I really like about the style guide is that the book goes on to create several mash ups of those eleven basic style aesthetics, and demonstrates how to collaborate seemingly different tastes successfully (which comes in handy if you share your living space).

Not only is the book exceedingly helpful and informative, it is visually gorgeous. From it's beautiful cover to the exquisite photography inside (taken by Karyn R. Millet), you can't help but be inspired to improve your surroundings when looking at this book. It would even be beautiful on display for your guests as a coffee table book! The Well-Dressed Home is perfect if you are looking to revamp your homestead for the holidays or new year, or if you are like me and preparing to move to a new abode. I am now so excited to have the blank canvas of a new home to execute some of the ideas I've gotten from this stunning book! It also makes the perfect gift for any fashionista in your life, whether she's in a studio apartment or manse, new to her home or been there for ages, young or old (in fact, my mother try to sneak away with my copy after I showed it to her!). 1. Wow sounds like a great book! I got married last year and we are still in the new stages of decor. Neither of us has a lot of furniture, so this book sounds like it could shape the look and feel of our home!

  2. We moved to Ohio 3.5 years ago and I guess I still wish we'd move back to NY that I haven't done a thing to our home...

I think at this point it's a bout time that I face reality and start making this home mine! Some pointers couldn't hurt :)
